What change do you want to see in the art world? | Bleur

For this episode of Bleur’s ‘State of the Art’, they asked us what change we’d like to see in the art world. For a lot of us, it was things like opportunity and diversity. For others it was respectful pay and to be taken seriously.

For me it was a re-investment in arts education. Without this, we’ll have such a small group of people who can afford to study art - an already financially risky industry to work in. Art is for everyone, and we need to hear a wide range of peoples voices, if only a select group of people from a particular part of society makes up the art industry, then the story of society is incomplete. We need it to be full and well rounded.

I’m a big fan of Art’s Emergency, they’re a UK based organisation that guide young people into a career in the arts. If you’re aged between 16-18 you can sign up for a mentor and be matched with someone in your aspiring creative field. If you’re working within the arts and feel like you could help someone flourish - sign up to be a mentor!
